MANILA, Philippines — The country may see less than 1,000 new daily COVID-19 cases by the end of November, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said Friday.

This was lower than the previous projection of the independent pandemic monitor that the country may have less than 2,000 cases per day by the end of this month.

“We previously made a projection that we would be at possibly less than 2,000 cases per day in the whole country by the end of November, but it’s just the first week of November and we are already seeing 1,500 and 1,700 cases,” David said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

“We might even improve on those projections and maybe even see triple-digit numbers per day by the end of November. If this continues, we would really be having a really good Christmas,” he added.

The Department of Health reported 1,591 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and 1,766 on Thursday. The country still has 37,159 active coronavirus cases to date.

In a media forum on Thursday, David also said that the number of new coronavirus cases in Metro Manila and most of the country has returned to the level before cases surged due to the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant.
