MANILA, Philippines — An additional 186 deaths brought the COVID-19 death toll to 43,586 on Wednesday, said the Department of Health (DOH).
The total deaths currently account for 1.56 percent of the 2,793,898 confirmed virus infections in the country. It also makes up 0.87 percent of the total deaths worldwide.
According to the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, global deaths just breached the 5-million mark at 5,014,808.
Meanwhile, the total current active infections in the country are at their lowest since March 7 at 38,014, while recoveries are at 2,712,298.
Dr. Alethea De Guzman, Director of the DOH Epidemiology Bureau, recently confirmed that deaths caused by COVID-19 are declining. In a media forum on Tuesday, she revealed that over 5,000 deaths had been recorded the month before in September.
