MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 death toll in the country increased to 43,276, after 104 more people succumbed to complications caused by the new coronavirus, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.
The total number of deaths currently accounts for 1.55 percent of the total 2,790,375 confirmed COVID-19 infections in the country. It also accounts for 0.87 percent of the total COVID-19 deaths worldwide.
According to Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, global deaths are nearing the 5 million mark at 4,999,970.
Meanwhile, the total current active infections in the country were at their lowest since July 14 at 43,185, while total recovered patients are now at 2,703,914.
The country also recorded its lowest daily count of new infections since May 23, at 3,117 on Monday, according to DOH.
Despite this, however, the country’s current positivity rate stood at 7.5 percent – higher than the World Health Organization’s standard of 5 percent or below which indicates controlled transmission of the new coronavirus.
A relatively low number of individuals were also tested, based on DOH’s figures, as eight laboratories failed to submit their data to the DOH’s COVID-19 Document Repository System.
