Cops see through disguise, arrest suspect in shootings

Call it an epic fail.

A wig and a mustache failed to throw the police off the track of a man who went on a shooting rampage, wounding his girlfriend and killing her mother and two brothers.

The police on Thursday announced the arrest of Leonard “Mark” Capurcos who went into hiding after he shot his live-in partner, Miraflor Rafales, and the other members of her family when she tried to break up with him last month in Taguig City.

“When we got him, he was wearing a black wig with curly hair, like a clown. He also had a thick mustache,” said Supt. Danilo Pecaña of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

Capurcos was arrested by members of the NCRPO’s Regional Police Intelligence Operations Unit on Wednesday at a mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, based on a tip received by the police.

“We got a breakthrough on his location about two weeks ago and we have been pursuing him since then,” Pecaña said.

He added that Capurcos’ arrest was for a frustrated homicide case filed against him in 2009 after he shot and wounded a woman in the chest, also in Taguig.

“Aside from that case, we have learned that he is involved in two other incidents where he killed another victim in Laguna and a boy in Taguig. We are currently following up these cases,” Pecaña said.
