Roque in US for UN International Law Week
MANILA, Philippines — Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Tuesday said he is in the United States (US) to attend an event of the United Nations (UN).
“It is an official visit po to the UN on the occasion of the UN International Law Week, and I am supported by officials from the Office of the President and the Department of Foreign Affairs,” Roque explained during the Palace briefing.
“My wife is with me but on my own account,” he added.
In September, Roque confirmed his candidacy to the International Law Commission (ILC).
ILC members are elected by the UN General Assembly which is headquartered in New York City.
But his nomination was met by broad opposition here, as some sectors believe Roque “does not possess the qualifications” for the ILC position.
