DOH reports 5,823 new cases of COVID-19

The COVID-19 reproduction number in Metro Manila further decreased to 0.55, the lowest since May 18, OCTA Research said Tuesday.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 5,823 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the country’s total caseload to 2,745,889.

Of the total number of cases, 66,838 are active cases but most of them only have mild or no symptoms at 85.2 percent. The country’s current positivity rate is at 11.6 percent.

There are 4,748 recoveries, bringing the number of recoveries to 2,637,531.

The total number of deaths is now 41,520 after 283 new deaths were reported.

The DOH said that 45 duplicates were removed from the total case count including 36 recoveries.

“Moreover, 220 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH noted.

As of posting, the COVID-19 global case count is now at 242.5 million including 4.9 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University Case Tracker.
