Police tighten security as Arroyo prepares to leave for arraignment
MANILA, Philippines — Security tightened Thursday around the vicinity of the government-run hospital where former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been confined as she prepares to leave for her scheduled arraignment before a local court.
Arroyo is charged with electoral sabotage of the 2007 polls.
Security officers from Quezon City were seen stationed at Gate 1 of Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), and more police mobiles were seen arriving as early as 5 a.m., a few hours before Arroyo goes to Branch 112 of the Regional Trial Court of Pasay City.
Police officers, however, are mum on the exact time Arroyo will leave, as well as the mode of transportation she will take.
Arroyo’s arraignment is set at 8:30 a.m.
