SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — Businessmen and officials of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) have opened a P72-million commercial complex, which is considered as “proof of resiliency” of the local economic sector.
In a statement on Tuesday, SBMA said the two-story Subic Bay Gateway Park- Food Services, Inc. (SBGP-FSI) Commercial Complex was inaugurated on October 15. It features a restaurant, an appliance store, a food specialty store, and a function hall.
According to Willy Wang, head of SBGP-FSI, the complex also hosts a high-end convenience store that has the first-ever drive-thru in the country. Wang also serves as president of Subic Bay Development and Management Corp., (SBDMC).
The complex is a joint venture between SBDMC and MCOM Subic Corporation, a firm engaged in the development and management of properties.
Wilma Eisma, SBMA chair and administrator, said the project “demonstrates the resiliency of the Subic Freeport to rise amid the pandemic because of solid economic foundation and proves that the Subic agency has taken the right response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
During the same occasion, several Taiwanese firms also donated to the SBMA two ambulances, a police patrol car, and a vaccine refrigerator to boost Subic’s capacity in its vaccination program.
