PH’s active COVID-19 cases almost at 79k with 7,625 new infections
MANILA, Philippines — The country now has 78,999 active cases of COVID-19 as of Friday as the Department of Health (DOH) reports 7,625 additional coronavirus disease infections.
The current number of active cases makes up 2.9 percent of the 2,705,792 total infections detected since the start of the pandemic. Of the active tally, 87.1 percent are mild and asymptomatic, according to DOH.
Meanwhile, another 13,363 patients have recovered and 203 have died. Overall, the recoveries are now at 2,586,369 while deaths were at 40,424.
The DOH said 14.9 percent of 49,655 individuals who were tested were found positive for coronavirus last Wednesday.
On healthcare utilization, 66 percent of intensive care unit beds, 49 percent of isolation beds and ward beds, and 47 percent of ventilators are currently being utilized.
Article continues after this advertisementThree testing laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. According to DOH, these laboratories contributed an average of 1.3 percent of samples tested and 0.8 percent of positive individuals in the last 14 days.
The health agency also removed from the total case count 65 duplicates, including 46 recoveries, and reclassified 109 recoveries as deaths after validation.
