Suspected communist rebel nabbed in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY — A suspected communist rebel was apprehended in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) identified the suspect as Reagan Taub who is facing a murder case.

Seized from the suspect was a .45mm caliber pistol and “various terrorist documents.”

Taub was accused of killing a military base commander and four other civilians in Barangay Trinidad Guihulngan City.

Battalion Commander Melvin Flores said the suspect’s arrest was a manifestation that the residents of Guihulngan are willing to help the government in ending armed conflict.

“I sincerely appreciate the residents of Barangay Calupa-an for giving valid and true information on the presence of this personality to AFP,” Flores said.

“I am calling the remaining rebel to surrender, lay down their arms, and avail government program to be with your family in your own home and not in jail.”
