MANILA, Philippines — An unidentified male died Wednesday at a fire on Baseco compound in Manila that lasted for almost three hours, authorities reported on Thursday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that one female was also injured in the incident. BFP said they would later update the names of said victims.

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said the fire, which originated from a two-story residence, began at around 6:44 p.m.

The blaze reached the second alarm at 6:59 p.m., according to the BFP.

Firefighters put the blaze under control at 8:10 p.m. until it was fully extinguished at 9:31 in the evening.

Some 100 houses were razed by the fire, affecting 194 families, while the amount of damage stands at P700,000.

The Manila City government said the affected families are currently at the Baseco Evacuation Site, where modular tents and hot meals were provided to evacuees.
