PH logs 8,292 new COVID-19 infections; total now at 2,674,814
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines’ total number of active COVID-19 cases is now at 98,894 as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 8,292 new infections on Monday.
This number brings the total cases to 2,674,814.
The new cases account for 16.5 percent of only 52,325 individuals tested. Slightly lower than yesterday’s testing output as well as compared to the past few days’ which consistently exceeded 55,000.
Meanwhile, only 302 recoveries were also reported by the DOH, bringing total recoveries to 2,536,260
The death toll, on the other hand, slightly rose to 39,660 after the DOH reported 36 additional deaths.
Of the total patients currently afflicted with the serious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, 74.4 percent are suffering mild cases, 15 percent are asymptomatic, 6.14 percent moderate, 3.2 percent severe, and 1.3 percent critical.
Article continues after this advertisementHowever, two laboratories were not able to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System in the total tests conducted on October 2, the DOH said. These labs contribute, on average, 0.2 percent of samples tested and 0.4 percent of positive individuals.
Article continues after this advertisementThe health agency also said that 40 duplicates were removed from the total case count — of which 32 were recoveries.
“Moreover, 21 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it added.
The DOH also reported that 69 percent of ICU beds, 53 percent of isolation beds, 54 percent of ward beds, and 50 percent of ventilators are currently in use across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Metro Manila, meanwhile, occupied ICU beds are currently at 67 percent, isolation beds at 43 percent, ward beds at 49 percent while 50 percent of available ventilators were also being used in the region, said DOH.
