Suppliers complain of delays in goods, services payments

SUPPLIERS of Mandaue City Hall complained anew over the delay of payments for their goods or services.

The suppliers—mostly winning bidders for sports uniforms, office and medical supplies—questioned why they have to pay for bidding documents and put up a bond if they join the bidding.

City Treasurer Regal Oliva said they are enforcing policies as stipulated in the city’s tax revenue code.

He said if one does business in Mandaue City, he or she also has to pay business tax, a requirement in securing a business permit.

Oliva said they have started releasing checks to the supplier but they had to prioritize paying their water and electricity bills.

His office is also keeping track of those who have filed business permits.

“If you’re doing business in Mandaue, then you are obliged to pay also your business tax and secure business permit in the city, as it would be unfair for you to declare your business income in Cebu City,” Oliva said.

Some suppliers  complained that a certain Edick Go would approach their collectors and offer his services to fast track the processing of their payments. Oliva denied this.

He encouraged the suppliers to report to him if his staff would offer their services in processing their payment in exchange for a certain amount.

Oliva said he will not tolerate such acts and will make sure they will be dealt with accordingly. /Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
