Signal No. 1 in 17 areas due to Tropical Storm Maring
MANILA, Philippines — Seventeen areas are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 due to Tropical Storm Maring the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported before noon Sunday.
Strong winds are prevailing or are expected within the next 36 hours in areas under Signal No. 1.
Based on Pagasa’s 11 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, Maring was monitored at 730 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Moving north northwest at 30 kilometers per hour (kph), Maring has maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.
The tropical storm is expected to trigger moderate to heavy rains in Catanduanes while light to moderate and at times heavy rains may be experienced over the rest of Bicol and Visayas regions.
Article continues after this advertisementThe southwesterlies, meantime, may trigger rain showers in Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro, Pagasa said.

The weather bureau warned that isolated to to scattered flash floods and rain-induced landslides may occur “especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard.”
Pagasa said that the eastern seaboards of the country are under a gale warning due to Maring and the northeasterly windflow.
