LEGAZPI CITY—Another Villafuerte from the political clan that has been at the helm of Camarines Sur politics for more than three decades is seeking the gubernatorial post in the province in the 2022 elections, going head-to-head with incumbent Vice Governor Imelda Papin.
Luigi Villafuerte, the younger brother of incumbent Miguel Luis “Migz” Villafuerte, is slated to run for Camarines Sur governor under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
Luigi is one of the grandsons of Luis Villafuerte Sr., former Camarines Sur governor and representative, who passed away on September 8.
“I humbly present myself to the people of CamSur as someone who is ready to give my heart, my life, my all in the service of the people,” Villafuerte posted on social media after filing for candidacy on Friday, October 8.
Villafuerte’s opponent Papin is his brother incumbent Camarines Sur Governor Miguel Luis’ former running mate and is now running under the party Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).
Papin said she ran under another party because “all of us who want to serve have different views and different ways to help our province.”
PFP is the political party that nominated Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as its presidential bet.
Papin is related to the matriarch Imelda Marcos.
Meanwhile, the older Villafuerte brother will run for fifth district representative of Camarines Sur.
Their father, Luis Raymund “LRay,” has filed for his last term for second district congressman.
