PH logs 11,010 new COVID infections, pushing active cases to over 106K

MANILA, Philippines — The country reported 11,010 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total caseload to 2,654,450, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.

Of the overall caseload, 106,558 or 4 percent are still tagged as “active cases,” but most of them have mild and asymptomatic infections at 90.2 percent.

There are also 22,529 new recoveries pushing the number of COVID-19 survivors to 2,508,387, which accounts for 94.5 percent of all cases.

The total number of deaths is now at 39,505 after 273 were reported to succumb to the new coronavirus.

DOH said 54 duplicates were removed from the total case tally, 39 of which are recoveries.

“Moreover, 162 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH noted.

Meanwhile, the Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of the number of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 4,225,871 cases, according to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19.

As of posting, the COVID-19 global case count is now at 237.2 million including 4.8 million deaths, according to the tracker.
