DepEd: 3 out of 5 teachers vaccinated vs COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Three out of five school personnel have been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Department of Education (DepEd), as it prepares for the implementation of the pilot run of in-person classes.

In a statement on Friday, the DepEd said a total of 588,561, or 56.73 percent of all teaching and non-teaching personnel had either received their first dose or have completed their immunization shots from their local governments.

The latest report noted that the rate of inoculated personnel reached 40.4 percent in August, up from 20 percent in July.

“It goes to show that majority of us want to have a safer school year 2021-2022, especially that we are about to start the limited [in-person] classes,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said.

The pilot run will start on Nov. 15. All teachers participating in the pilot run need to be fully vaccinated. —Dexter Cabalza
