LAOAG CITY—Presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos said he was no longer surprised by the announcement Thursday of Vice President Leni Robredo that she would also seek the highest elective post in the country in the 2022 elections.

Speaking to local reporters, the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos said Leni had been hinting even before that she would seek the presidency.

“Matagal na niyang sinasabi na tatakbo siya if tatakbo din ako,” said Bongbong. (She had long been saying that she would run, if I run.)

Bongbong said he was open to Leni’s candidacy as there would be a ”whole range of choices, ideology, as to plans in the future” for Filipino votes in next year’s elections.

“It is good for health democracy,” added Bongbong, noting that he was the only presidential candidate who is allied with the administration as most of those who formalized their candidacies had presented themselves as opposition candidates.

The presidential aspirant said he would not only expect to elicit support from the so-called “Solid North” voting block but also the “Solid South” after he transferred political party and would run under the three-year-old “Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP)”.

Bongbong, who previously belonged under the Villar-led Nacionalista party, said many of the members of the PFP come from provinces located in the southern part of the country.

“I think we could consider them to belong under the solid Ilocano vote,” according to Bongbong.
