LAOAG CITY—Incumbent Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc and Vice Gov. Cecile Marcos Araneta are seeking reelection for another term in the 2022 elections.

The two were the first to file Wednesday their certificates of candidacies (COC), among the Marcoses, the most dominant political dynasty in Ilocos Norte.

Matthew, 32, replaced his mother, Sen. Imee Marcos, as governor of the province in 2019.

He ran unopposed in 2019 when the patriarch of another political family, former congressman Rudy Fariñas, dropped his candidacy as governor.

Cecile, on the other hand, is the widow of Matthew’s uncle, Mariano “Nonong” Marcos II, who died of cardiac arrest in the middle of his campaign as vice governor of the province in the 2019 elections.

Cecile then replaced her husband in seeking the vice gubernatorial post.
