MANILA, Philippines — Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos on Wednesday filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for her intention to slide down to vice mayor in the upcoming 2022 elections.

The office of the mayor said Menchie will be running for vice mayor alongside former Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. who will vie for mayor.

Menchie was accompanied by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Benhur Abalos when she filed her COC at around 10 a.m.

After a long break from politics, Benjamin Sr. will be returning to the political arena, gunning for the city’s top post.

Menchie has served as the city’s mayor since 2019, replacing her husband and current MMDA chairman, who was the city’s mayor from 1998 to 2004, and from 2007 to 2016.
