MANILA, Philippines — Senator Joel Villanueva lodged his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Wednesday as he seeks reelection in the upcoming elections.
Villanueva formalized his bid around 2 p.m. at the Sofitel Harbor Garden Tent in Pasay City.
“Ngayong araw na ito, ako po ay nag-apply muli ng trabaho bilang inyong empleyado sa Senado sa pangalawang termino,” Villanueva said on his speech after filing his COC.
(Today, I am applying for a job as your employee in the Senate for a second term.)
“Nais po natin ipagpatuloy ang ating mga ginagawa lalong-lalo na po ngayon sapagkat naniniwala tayo, at this point in time, mas kailangan ng Tesdaman sa Senado. Bakit? Dahil po sa pandemya. Kailangan tuloy-tuloy ang paggawa at paglikha ng trabaho,” he added.
(We want to continue our projects, especially now because we believe, at this point in time, we need a Tesdaman in the Senate. Why? Because of the pandemic. We need to generate more jobs.)
Villanueva likewise mentioned his perfect attendance in the Senate.
Earlier, aspiring president Senator Panfilo Lacson revealed that Villanueva is among those included in the slate of his tandem with Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Villanueva is the former director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority where he earned the name “Tesda man.”
