Tropical Depression Lannie leaves 2 dead in Cebu

CEBU CITY — Tropical Depression Lannie has left two persons dead due to drowning on Monday.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Neil Sanchez said that an Indian national drowned in a river in Consolacion town, north Cebu.

Valjinder Singh, 34, was riding his motorcycle with his girlfriend and tried to cross a swollen river in Barangay Tayud, Consolacion.

Both were swept by the strong current past 7 p.m. The female companion survived but Singh went missing. Rescuers found his body past 1 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5.

In Carcar City, the body of 13-year-old Jan Cristel Encabo was found off the coast of Barangay Perrelos.

She was reportedly swimming with friends amid huge waves Monday afternoon.

The Carcar City disaster management office found Encabo’s body past 11 a.m. Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the weather has improved in some parts of Metro Cebu, although it is still cloudy with some heavy downpours.
