Robin Padilla joins PDP-Laban Cusi faction
MANILA, Philippines — Actor Robin Padilla has joined the PDP-Laban allied with President Rodrigo Duterte.
As shown in photos released by the political party on Tuesday, Padilla took an oath before Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, the party president.
However, the PDP-Laban did not say whether it would field or endorse the actor for any national position in the upcoming 2022 elections.
“Please wait for the official announcement. In the meantime, he is now the newest member of PDP Laban,” PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag said when asked if Padilla would run for an elective position under PDP-Laban in the 2022 polls.
Padilla was earlier named as one of the celebrities shortlisted for President Rodrigo Duterte’s senatorial lineup for the 2022 polls, along with Willie Revillame and Raffy Tulfo.
The PDP-Laban faction earlier announced its initial senatorial slate, including House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta, chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo, Information and Communications Technology Secretary Gringo Honasan, Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade, and Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar.
Cusi earlier said four Cabinet members would proceed with their 2022 senatorial bids under the banner of PDP-Laban.
These are: presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Panelo, Villar, and anti-corruption commission chairperson Greco Belgica.
