Over 80% of PNP now fully vaccinated vs COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — More than 80 percent of the Philippine National Police (PNP) force have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

In data distributed Tuesday by PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar to the media, 80.5 percent or 179,164 of the 222,560-strong police force have already completed their coronavirus vaccine doses while 16.75 percent or 37,280 have so far received the first dose.

Police officers who have yet to receive even a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine were at 2.75 percent or 6,116, the PNP data also showed. Of the unvaccinated, 859 or 0.39 percent have “valid reasons” while 2.36 percent or 5,257 have “no valid reasons,” it added.

Meanwhile, the PNP reported the infection of an additional 109 police officers which raised its total case count to 40,345. It likewise said 1,840 police officers remain sick of the disease caused by coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 while recoveries among them increased to 38,386 after 188 more survived the illness.

Deaths of PNP members due to COVID-19 stayed at 119 as of Tuesday, according to the PNP.

Nationwide, the government said the country has confirmed 2,604,040 cases of COVID-19 since last year. This included 106,160 active cases, 2,459,052 recoveries, and 38,828 deaths, as of October 4.
