MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) logged 10,748 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the Philippines’ total number of infections to 2,604,040.

The health agency also placed active COVID-19 cases at 106,160 amid new infections with 82% of them manifesting mild symptoms as 8.3% were asymptomatic while 5.15% were in moderate conditions, 2.7% were severe, and 1.2% were critical.

Total active cases nationwide represented 4.1% of the total COVID-19 case count, according to the DOH’s bulletin released at 8 p.m. on Monday.

Meanwhile, 16,523 COVID-19 patients were able to recover from the disease, bringing the total number of people surviving the illness to 2,459,052.

The death toll, on the other hand, increased to 38,828 after the DOH reported the death of 61 patients.

The DOH also said 20.2% of 59,551 individuals tested for the coronavirus on Saturday, October 2, were found positive. It likewise said that all testing laboratories were operational on October 2 but three laboratories were not able to submit their data.

“Bagamat bumaba ang bilang ng ating mga kaso, mapapansin na mataas pa rin ang ating healthcare utilization rate,” the health agency said.

(Although the number of new cases went down, we can see that the healthcare utilization rate is still high.)

“Huwag tayong maging kampante at patuloy na sumunod sa minimum public health standards at magpabakuna kapag tayo ay eligible na upang maiwasan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19,” it added.

(We should not be complacent and we should continue following minimum public health standards and get vaccinated when we already can to avoid the spread of COVID-19.)

Moreover, the DOH reported that 107 duplicates were removed from the total case count. including 71 recoveries and one fatality and that 23 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
