SANTA ROSA CITY, Laguna, Philippines — Former broadcast journalist and outgoing Laguna 3rd District Rep. Sol Aragones filed on Monday her certificate of candidacy (COC) for governor at the provincial Commission on Elections office in Calamba City.
Aragones, a three-time congresswoman, will run with Jerico Ejercito, the son of former Laguna Governor ER Ejercito who was removed from office due to election overspending in 2013, as the vice gubernatorial candidate.
If she wins the top provincial post, Aragones said that she would strengthen the province’s healthcare system through establishing a tertiary hospital and lowering the cost of medicines.
Aragones also vowed to focus on agriculture and tourism industries, promising to develop Laguna as the “tourism capital of the Philippines.” She also assured senior citizens of a social pension.
The former ABS-CBN anchor and host of the network’s weekly health program “Salamat Dok” will try to challenge incumbent Governor Ramil Hernandez who is seeking reelection for the third time.
