PH logs 13,273 new COVID-19 cases; total now at 2,593,399

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 13,273 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 2,593,399.

The number accounts for 20.2 percent of only 64,747 individuals tested.

Meanwhile, the DOH recorded a higher number of recoveries at 45,249, bringing the number of total recoveries to 2,442,623.

On Saturday, the DOH reported 894 recoveries.

With the relatively high number of recoveries, the total number of active cases dropped to 112,008.

The death toll, meanwhile, soared to 38,768 after the DOH reported 112 additional deaths.

Of the total COVID-19 patients, 85.8 percent are mild cases, 6.1 percent are asymptomatic, 4.58 percent moderate, 2.5 percent severe, and 1.1 percent critical.

Three laboratories were not able to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System for the total tests conducted on October 1, the DOH said. These laboratories contribute, on average, 0.6 percent of samples tested and 0.7 percent of positive individuals.

The DOH also removed 47 duplicates from the total case count — of which 35 are recoveries.

“Moreover, 47 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

The DOH also reported that 72 percent of ICU beds, 60 percent of isolation beds, 64 percent of ward beds, and 53 percent of ventilators are currently in use across the country.

In Metro Manila, meanwhile, occupied ICU beds are currently at 74 percent, isolation beds at 48 percent, ward beds at 61 percent while 56 percent of available ventilators are also being used in the region, said the DOH.
