MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo is still finalizing her decision for the 2022 elections, her office’s spokesperson Atty. Barry Gutierrez said on Sunday as he told the public to wait for her announcement.
The statement came after reports that Robredo accepted opposition coalition 1Sambayan’s nomination of her as president.
Gutierrez told the public to be patient as Robredo earlier said that she will announce her decision before October 8, the last day of the certificate of candidacy (COC) filing.
So, hindi na matagal,” the spokesperson said.
(We understand. It’s clear that many people are excited and are waiting. Just a little more patience. Robredo said that October 8 is the last day of the COC filing and she will announce her decision before it. It won’t be long.)
(To those who have been waiting and keeping track for a long time, and those excited to hear the vice president’s decision, it will be just a few more days and we’ll know.)
Gutierrez, moreover, shared that Robredo herself would announce the decision.
Pasensya lang,” he said.
(I’ll repeat it for our listeners and supporters, Robredo herself will be announcing her decision. We do not need to guess and make assumptions. It’s just a few more days, she’ll decide. Let’s trust and be patient.)
Gutierrez likewise echoed Robredo’s earlier statement that once she comes up with a decision, she will not back out from it.
“Kaya si VP Leni talagang pinag-iisipan. Hindi ‘yung parang, ‘hindi ako tatakbo,’ tapos biglang magbabago isip. O kaya, ‘tatakbo ako,’ tapos aatras. Walang ganun. Klaro sa kanya,” the spokesman explained.
(Robredo really thinks about her plans. She’s not going to say, “I’m not going to run,” but change her mind afterwards. Or, “I will run,” then back out. Nothing like that. She’s very clear.)
