MANILA, Philippines — There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in the Vanuatu in the southwestern Pacific region on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquake struck at around 2:29 p.m. and had a depth of 487 kilometers, according to Phivolcs.
“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” the agency said.
