2 teenage girls hurt in road accident in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY — Two teenage girls were seriously injured when an ambulance hit them in Batuan town, Bohol province past 12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1.
Police Staff Sergeant Daryl Yecyec, case investigator at the Batuan Police Station, identified the victims as Roselle Sopil and Mia Baer, both 16 years old and residents of Barangay Rizal in Batuan.
The ambulance, owned by the local government of Antequera, was on its way back to Antequera town from Ubay town where it transported a woman who was about to give birth.
According to Jovito Pilongo, 42, and the driver of the ambulance, he fell asleep while driving, causing the vehicle to swerve to the opposite lane and hit the girls who were walking at the roadside on their way home.
Sopil and Baer were rushed to the Congressman Simeon G. Toribio Memorial Hospital in Carmen town but were transferred to another hospital due to their delicate condition.
Pilongo was also rushed to the hospital for treatment.
