MANILA, Philippines—Tycoon’s son, Julian Ongpin, appeared at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday to attend the preliminary investigation on drug complaint filed against him.
Ongpin, son of businessman Roberto Ongpin, is also being considered a “person of interest” being the last known companion of visual artist Breanna “Bree” Jonson who was found dead on Sept. 18, inside a hostel room in San Juan, La Union.
“In today’s continuation of the preliminary investigation, the complainants [arresting officers and SOCO team] appeared as well as respondent Julian Ongpin and his counsels on record. The PNP complainants submitted their supplemental affidavit,” Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento told reporters.
Malcontento said Ongpin has submitted his counter-affidavit for the original complaint of possession of cocaine.
But Malcontento said Ongpin and his lawyers requested more time to study the supplemental affidavits submitted by the police.
He said the next preliminary investigation is set on Oct. 8 for the submission of additional counter-affidavits.
“If no new matters/issues are raised by the parties, the case will be submitted for resolution,” Malcontento said.
The young Ongpin is facing a complaint for violation of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
