MANILA, Philippines — The Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) on Thursday refuted claims on social media that it does not allow watchers for admitted patients but offers caregivers for P5,000 per day.

“The LCP categorically denies this assertion,” it said in a statement.

As a COVID-19 referral hospital for severe and critically-ill cases, the LCP stressed that as a general policy, relatives and watchers are barred from staying inside the rooms of patients suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19.

The hospital, however, said that it allows the services of duly-certified third-party private duty nurse (PDN), in extreme cases and upon the request of the family and the approval and written order of the attending physician, provided that:

 – The patient is unable to take care of his/her daily personal needs due to debilitation and/or abnormal consciousness,

 – There is a lack of regular nursing personnel in the ward to attend to the patient due to any reason, as certified by nursing supervisor; and

 – The family agrees to transact directly with the PDN the terms of agreement for the services, including but not limited to, the daily rate of compensation

“Needless to say, the LCP has no proprietary interest regarding the financial arrangements between the PDN and the patients’ family, but it is in the interest of the patient that all PDNs allowed to practice in LCP are assured to be fully-qualified and certified by the regulating body,” it added.
