130 more COVID-19 patients die — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Another 130 patients who had COVID-19 have died, taking the total number of COVID-19 patients who have died to 38,294 as of Thursday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The total number of deaths now compose 1.50 percent of the total 2.54 million confirmed cases of the disease in the country.

Meanwhile, of the total confirmed cases, 138,294 remain active, which include 2 percent severe and 0.9 percent critical cases that are at higher risk for death. Majority or 77.7 percent are mild cases, 15.8 percent are asymptomatic, and 3.72 percent are moderate cases.

On hospitalization, the DOH said that 74 percent of ICU beds, 62 percent of isolation beds, 66 percent of ward beds, and 54 percent of ventilators are currently being utilized.

The department earlier noted that the percentage of deaths among COVID-19 patients in the country decreased this year despite a three-fold increase in cases as compared to 2020, as the country ramps up vaccination. According to DOH, the COVID-19 case fatality rate was at 1.47 percent so far in 2021 compared to 2.47 percent in 2020.
