Palace lauds Pacquiao for making Filipinos proud as he retires from boxing

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Thursday thanked Senator Manny Pacquiao for bringing honor to the Philippines and lauded him for making Filipinos proud following his retirement from professional boxing.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo kay Senator Pacquiao because he has honored the country with his many successes and we share in the joys of his triumphs as well as in his defeats,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing.

“We are proud that he is a Filipino. And he has also made us proud to be Filipinos,” he added.

Pacquiao on Wednesday announced that his “time as a boxer is over.”

Throughout his boxing career, Pacquiao garnered 12 world titles across eight weight divisions.

Pacquiao’s retirement from boxing came as he threw his hat in the presidential race in the 2022 national elections.
