MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines surgeon general has agreed to deploy military medical personnel to undermanned hospitals treating patients infected by the new coronavirus.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Col. Fatima Claire Navarro, surgeon general of the AFP, had deployed an additional five doctors and 20 nurses to different Metro Manila hospitals.

The deployed medical personnel were in addition to five teams—each made up of a doctor, a nurse, and three nursing aides — previously sent by the AFP to different COVID-19 treatment facilities in the National Capital Region.
