91 more fatalities raise PH’s COVID-9 death toll to 37,686

MANILA, Philippines — Ninety-one more patients who had COVID-19 have died, raising the death count to 37,686 as of Tuesday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The DOH said the total number of deaths is 1.51 percent of all the 2.52 million confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, of which 132,139 remain active.

The 91 deaths were on top of the 102 additional deaths reported by the health agency earlier in the day. The 102 deaths were part of the backlog of data due to the technical glitch in the COVIDKaya, the DOH’s central repository of all data related to the pandemic response. The DOH earlier explained that the system has reached its server capacity, which caused the technical issues.

Earlier this month, the DOH noted that as the country ramps up vaccination, the percentage of deaths among COVID-19 patients in the country decreased this year despite a three-fold increase in cases as compared to 2020.

According to the department, the COVID-19 case fatality rate was at 1.47 percent so far in 2021 compared to 2.47 percent in 2020.
