MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo’s political plans for 2022 became the hot topic of discussions and wisecracks Tuesday as Senator Francis Pangilinan said the Liberal Party stalwart may just immediately file her candidacy if it would set off the reunion of pop rock band Eraserheads.
In a tweet, Pangilinan reacted to another tweet made by former Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia on a netizen’s question about a possible band reunion.
After Buendia said the band may reunite if Robredo runs, Pangilinan, president of the opposition LP, said Robredo may just file her certificate of candidacy (COC) as early as Friday, October 1, which is the first day of filing.
“Kung totoo talaga ‘yan, eh baka sa Friday palang naka file na si Ma’am!” the legislator quipped.

It is unclear what particular elective position Buendia was referring to, as he did not mention whether Robredo should run for president or a local elective post.

But netizens also noted that Buendia has a habit of referring to possible yet far-fetched things when asked about his former band — which had a cult following over the years — possibly reuniting again.
In a different reply to the same query, the musician replied by saying Eraserheads band members may share the same stage again if another band in IV of Spades also embark on a reunion.
While IV of Spades remains a three-man band, it parted ways with its original vocalist Unique Salonga in 2018, to pursue personal interests.

In another response to the same question, Buendia also said that “Jesus must come back” before Eraserheads goes on a reunion again.
Eraserheads, composed of Buendia, guitarist Marcos Adoro, bassist Buddy Zabala, and drummer Raimund Marasigan, disbanded in the early 2000s due to disagreements and internal quarrels.
The band last did a reunion in 2009, which was a follow-up to the previous year’s one-night reunion concert which was cut short by Buendia suffering a heart attack on stage.
There have been rumors that Robredo may run for president in 2022. But there were also whispers of her allegedly planning to vie for a local post next year, as there were talks that she just might totally retire from politics.
For now, however, Robredo has yet to make formal announcements about her political plans in 2022. She recently said she is not giving up yet on the possibility of forging an alliance with all opposition forces in order to field a single presidential candidate next year.

Robredo previously held meetings with Senators Panfilo Lacson and Manny Pacquiao, and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso – who have all formally declared their presidential candidacies next year.
The last day for the filing of COCs before the Commission on Elections would be on October 8.
