MANILA, Philippines — A typhoon with the international name “Mindulle” is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, September 28, and will have the local name “Lannie,” the state weather service said.
Based on the late Monday afternoon forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the typhoon is not anticipated to hit any landmass in the country as weather specialist Joey Figuracion said Mindulle would not possibly linger within PAR for too long.
“Pagpasok niya bukas ay in the next 24 to 48 hours ay lalabas na rin siya agad ng ating area of responsibility,” said Figuracion.
(The typhoon will leave our area of responsibility in the next 24 to 48 hours after it enters PAR tomorrow.)
“Hindi inaasahan na magkakaroon ito ng epekto o ‘yung landfall scenario ay mababa sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa,” he added.
(No direct impacts are expected and the landfall scenario is low in any part of our country.)
Mindulle was last spotted 1,475 kilometers (km) east of Calayan, Cagayan. It has maximum wind speeds of 155 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 190 kph. The typhoon is currently moving north-northwest.
“Base diyan sa course na ‘yan ay maaaring pumasok nga po ito sa ating area of responsibility bukas, at papangalanan natin ‘yang ‘Lani,’” said Perez.
(Based on that course, it may enter our area of responsibility tomorrow, and we will name it Lani.)
Most of Luzon will experience generally fair weather on Tuesday while Palawan will continue to have cloudy skies and rain, according to Pagasa.
But the state weather bureau also said isolated rain showers in Luzon remain possible in the early morning and by afternoon and evening.
The Visayas, on the other hand, will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms while generally fair weather is expected in Mindanao.
Meanwhile, Pagasa’s forecast temperature range in key cities/areas for Tuesday were as follows:
- Metro Manila: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Baguio City: 16 to 24 degrees Celsius
- Laoag City: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
- Tuguegarao: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
- Legazpi City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
- Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
