MANILA, Philippines — Five local government units in Metro Manila are now under moderate risk for COVID-19 as the reproduction number for the capital region dropped to 0.94, OCTA Research reported on Sunday.

According to Dr. Guido David, OCTA Research fellow, the moderate risk LGUs are Pateros, Valenzuela, Manila, Malabon, and Navotas. David claimed that the risk levels are based on indicators calculated by COVID Act Now, an organization based in the United States, and may not reflect the alert level ratings by the Department of Health.

The rest of Metro Manila, meanwhile, remained at high risk for the coronavirus, possibly driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila was 4,220 with a -20 percent one-week growth rate, said OCTA.

The group’s update further showed that the capital region’s positivity rate over the past seven days was 19 percent which is considered high.

The average daily attack rate (ADAR) or the number of new daily cases per 100,000 is recorded at 30.22 percent from September 19 to 25.

Figures also showed that COVID-19 hospital bed and intensive care unit occupancy in Metro Manila are at 61 percent and 76 percent, respectively.
