MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City, Manila, and Pasig topped the cities with the highest number of new COVID-19 cases on Friday, according to OCTA Research on Saturday, citing data from the Department of Health (DOH).

Data from the pandemic monitoring group posted on Twitter by its fellow Guido David showed that Quezon City recorded 1,074 new COVID-19 cases.

It is followed by Manila with 449 cases; Pasig, 436; Davao City, 433, and Caloocan City with 331.

The DOH reported a total of 18,659 cases on Friday, which brought the current active cases of the disease to 175,324.

OCTA Research noted that 4,498 of the new cases came from Metro Manila. In total, the capital region now has 43,832 active cases of the disease.

The current reproduction number of COVID-19 in the country is at 1.03, from the previous 1.20 last week. Reproduction number is the average number of individuals who could be infected by one positive case.

Meanwhile, the seven-day average of cases from September 18 to 24 was at 17,630 with one-week growth rate of -13 percent, from the previous -2 percent last week.

For Metro Manila, the reproduction number was at 0.97 and the one-week growth rate of cases was at -22 percent for a seven-day average of 4,480 new cases, according to David.

OCTA Research earlier noted that a downward trend of cases has been observed in the country but cases at the national level were going down slower because of the increase in cases outside NCR Plus.
