Cops seize P29K worth illegal logs in Occidental Mindoro town

CITY OF CALAPAN – Police confiscated P29,000 worth of illegal logs on Saturday that were abandoned in Abra de Ilog town in Oriental Mindoro province, according to a report from the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) Police.

Police, while undertaking barangay intelligence recruitment at 5:30 p.m., discovered cut lumbers of gmelina species scattered at Barangay Cabacao.

They learned from residents there that those were owned by a man who is a resident of Lipa City in Batangas province. The suspect remains at large.

Confiscated were 89 pieces of lumber with scale of about 978 board feet and valued at P 29,340.

They were turned over to barangay officials for temporary custody while waiting for the personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The suspect will face charges for violation of the Revised Forestry Code.
