Palace downplays fall in Duterte’s satisfaction rating

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang said on Friday that it remained unfazed by the recent drop in President Duterte’s satisfaction rating, which it said remained “very good by any standards.”

“Of course, as the election nears, candidates will find ways to bring down the rating of the administration because, otherwise, they will have no chance of winning,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.

But he said the decrease in Duterte’s satisfaction rating was not drastic.

“That is not very alarming and it is still very good by any standards,” he said.

The Social Weather Stations said the president’s net satisfaction rating fell to plus-62 in June from plus-79 in November last year.

Duterte is on his last year in Malacañang but is seeking to retain power by running for vice president in next year’s elections.
