MANILA, Philippines — The average new daily COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila is expected to be as low as 2,000 by October, an OCTA Research fellow said Thursday.

“Yung bilang ng kaso hindi ko pa masasabi ngayon sa projections natin sa buong bansa kasi iba iba yung trends. Pero sa Metro Manila, ang inaasahan natin by the end of the month, nasa 4,000 na lang tayo sana, 4,000 daily average natin,” OCTA Research fellow Guido David said in a televised briefing.

“By October, baka nasa 2,000 to 3,000 na lang yung daily average natin. Yun yung mga inaasahan natin,” he added.

David said the COVID-19 reproduction number in Metro Manila has gone down to 0.99 which signals a slowdown in the transmission of the coronavirus in the region.

Meanwhile, the NCR’s latest seven-day average stands at 4,674 cases, a 20 percent decrease from the previous week.

Metro Manila has 41,569 active COVID-19 cases, according to the Department of Health’s COVID tracker.
