MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City’s food security program made it to the finalist circle for the 2021 Galing Pook Awards, which recognizes the innovative practices of local governments aimed at improving the lives of their constituents.

Quezon City’s Food Security Task Force led the city program that aimed to provide relief through food and cash to residents.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said the city now has 166 sites in different areas that serve as a source of nutrition, comfort and mental relief for residents.

Programs that win the awards become models of good government promoted for adoption in other communities, and possibly may even extend to other countries as the Galing Pook Foundation is part of the Global Public Innovations Network, a network of 10 public policy awards programs from around the world that enables the pooling and dissemination of experiences and knowledge about innovations in public service delivery, public action and governance.

The awarding ceremony will be held in October, during the 30th anniversary of the Local Government Code.
