OLONGAPO CITY–The occupancy rate in wards and intensive care units (ICU) dedicated to COVID-19 patients in this city has again reached 100 percent on Tuesday (Sept. 21) as virus-infected patients continue to swarm local hospitals.
Data from the Department of Health showed that the 20 COVID-19 wards and the seven ICU beds in James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH), the main COVID-19 facility in the city, have all been occupied.
But the isolation bed capacity of the four hospitals in the city remains at 66 percent as 26 of the 77 beds are still available as of Tuesday.
Among the four hospitals, the St. Jude Medical Hospital is at a critical level since 91 percent of its 12 isolation beds had been occupied already.
JLGMH and the Zambales Medical Mission Group Coop Hospital are at a high-risk level.
Only the Mother and Child General Hospital is still at a safe level, the same DOH data showed.
On Sept. 7, the ICU bed occupancy rate of the city also hit its maximum capacity, although beds became available in recent days.
The city recorded 22 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing its active infections to 784. INQ
