DOH records 16,361 new COVID-19 cases

COVID-19 cases as of September 21, 2021 (4pm)

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) logged 16,361 additional COVID-10 cases on Tuesday, bringing the country’s current count of active coronavirus infections to 171,142.

The low number of additional cases is attributed to the lower testing laboratory output on Sunday.

The DOH said the active cases compose 7.1 percent of all the 2,401,916 confirmed cases of the disease in the country.

Meanwhile, the DOH also reported 21,974 more recoveries, raising the total to 2,193,700, and 140 more deaths, taking the death toll to 37,074. Recoveries account for 91.3 percent while deaths make up 1.54 percent of all the confirmed cases.

Some 27 percent of 48,262 people who were tested were found positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on Sunday.

According to the DOH, four testing laboratories, which contributed 0.4 percent of samples tested and 0.3 percent of positive individuals in the last 14 days, were not able to submit their data on time.

The health department removed 61 duplicates, including 46 recoveries, from the total case count, while 60 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
