MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––Police have accosted at least 20,411 residents in this province for violating health protocols and rules under the general community quarantine with heightened restrictions, the provincial government said Monday, Sept. 20.
The residents were not wearing face masks and face shields, loitering in public places, and not abiding by the curfew and liquor ban rules.
Other residents took to social media to express their dismay over those violating health protocols.
“There are strict rules before you can enter the public market, but once inside, you would see that most vendors do not have face shields and were not wearing their face masks properly,” a netizen in Angeles City said.
“When we get modules from the school, we are asked to proceed to the faucet area first to clean our hands, but while queuing, many parents do not have face shields, and their face masks were lowered to their chins, not covering their noses and mouths,” a parent in Mabalacat City said.
Pampanga recorded Sunday 330 new COVID-19 patients, bringing its active cases to 5,845.
The province has recorded 39,813 cases since the pandemic began last year. Of these, 31,969 have recovered, while 1,999 have died.
The numbers do not include Angeles, a highly urbanized city, which is politically independent of Pampanga.
Angeles City registered 11,302 COVID-19 cases since the onset of the pandemic last year. Of these, 9,298 have recovered, 452 have died, and 1,552 remain active cases.
