Oriental Mindoro town mayor tests positive for COVID-19

CITY OF CALAPAN––The mayor of Pinamalayan town in Oriental Mindoro announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayor Aristeo Baldos Jr. said Tuesday that he had contracted the viral disease and, with an executive order, mandated Vice Mayor Rodel Magsino to take over as officer-in-charge for two weeks starting Monday.

Baldos is recovering in a hospital in Calapan City, according to a statement from his office.

As of Sept. 20, since the pandemic last year, Pinamalayan has reported 714 cases, of which 29 are active, 649 are recoveries, and 36 are deaths.

As of Sept. 18, Oriental Mindoro province reported 6,733 COVID-19 cases, of which 417 were active, 6,016 were recoveries, and 300 were deaths.

Pinamalayan had the third-highest total cases at 708. Calapan has the highest, with 2,331, followed by Naujan with 563.

As of Sept. 20, the province has 114,849 individuals vaccinated against COVID-19. Some 84,960 have been fully vaccinated, while 29,889 were waiting for their second dose.
