MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police, wants an Isabela cop dismissed from service for allegedly trying to extort P300,000 from a drug suspect’s family.

On Monday, Eleazar tasked the internal affairs service to begin summary dismissal proceedings against Police Master Sergeant Sherwin Gamit, assigned at Cauayan City police’s warrant section.

Gamit was arrested on Sunday in an entrapment operation in front of a church in Cauayan City conducted by the PNP integrity monitoring and enforcement group, the Isabela police intelligence unit and the Cauayan police.

Recovered from Gamit were the marked money, a .22-caliber pistol with no serial number, and his 9mm service firearm.
