COVID-19 kills 205 more Filipinos; death toll now at 36,788 — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Another 205 patients who contracted COVID-19 succumbed to complications, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday, bringing the total recorded deaths to 36,788.

With this, the Philippines has so far recorded a total of 3,341 deaths since the start of September amid what is known the be the worst COVID-19 surge in the country since it first hit last year.

This means deaths averaged 175 per day in the last 19 days. This is so far significantly higher than the average recorded per day in August at 114, 97 in July and 106 in June.

Meanwhile, the total death toll, according to DOH, accounts for only 1.55 percent of the total 2,366,749 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.

The local death toll also accounts for 0.78 percent of the total deaths worldwide, which according to Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, currently stands at 4,686,832.

Total current active infections, meanwhile, currently sit at 178,196, while recoveries are at 2,151,765.
